The El Capitan is truly the last great American movie palace. A corps of white-gloved ushers greet you at the door and lead you to your comfortable seat in G. Albert Lansburgh's 1926 lavish and colorful East Indian inspired auditorium. The Mighty Wurlitzer - one of 5 Jesse Crawford specials, originally housed at the San Francisco Fox - perfumes the air with beautiful music through thousands of pipes voiced through hundreds of stops. The lights dim as the organ lowers gently into the pit. With grand fanfare, a superb sound, light and curtain show prepare the audience for something special. A live stage show, themed to the feature, takes the stage filling the hall with song and dance. The stage show ends - more light and sound wizardry herald the feature attraction. The glimmering fiber optic curtain dims to sunset, a depiction of the twinkling nighttime Hollywood skyline, crossed with searchlights, fades into darkness. As the curtain rises, flawless state of the art presentation of the main feature begins. The El Capitan is the only American movie palace to feature live organ music and a stage show before the featured motion picture. A great tradition of showmanship is alive and well on Hollywood Boulevard. Don't miss this opportunity to hear the story of this great theatre and see some of the secrets behind the magic.
