About the Film
Set in 1929, this beloved comedy romp follows jazz musicians Joe (Tony Curtis) and Jerry (Jack Lemmon) as they flee Chicago after witnessing the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre. In their desperation to evade the gangsters who spotted them, they take the first job they find: a gig in an all-female band traveling to Miami.
Disguised as women, they meet Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), the band’s vocalist and ukulele player. Joe, disguised as Josephine, befriends Sugar and learns what she’s looking for in a potential mate. He then dons a second disguise as a millionaire and attempts to woo her.
Meanwhile, an actual millionaire attempts to woo “Daphne,” who is really Jerry. Mayhem ensues as the two friends attempt to keep their true identities a secret when the Chicago gangsters arrive in Miami.
The winner of three Golden Globes (Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Jack Lemmon; Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Marilyn Monroe; Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical), Some Like It Hot stands the test of time as one of the best comedies ever made.
This year marks the thirtieth season of Last Remaining Seats! To celebrate, we’re showing some of the best films screened over the past three decades. We screened Some Like It Hot at the Los Angeles Theatre in 2004.
