"Dying for Deco: The Funerary Extravagances of the Art Deco Era" & Screening of DRACULA'S DAUGHTER @ Egyptian Theatre | Los Angeles | California | United States
What was it like to be laid to rest Art Deco style? “Dying for Deco: The Funerary Extravagances of the Art Deco Period,” an hour-long lecture digs six feet under to answer that question. The 1920s and ’30s saw an overwhelming change in all of the decorative arts including such funerary decorations as caskets, hearses, head stones, cenotaphs, and mausoleums.

This illustrated presentation by former Art Deco Society of Los Angeles president (and LAHTF volunteer and founding Board member) Rory Cunningham  will utilize images and stories of monuments honoring the departed from around the world. Historian Nathan Marsak will display part of his extensive collection of embalming fluid bottles and other funerary relics of the period. Followed by the 1936 Universal horror flick DRACULA’S DAUGHTER. Rory has been digging up the dirt in cemeteries for a number of years now and has many gorgeous images to share!

Doors open at 1:00 PM for a cake reception honoring our ancestors, who opened the Egyptian Theatre on this day in 1922.
